ECP establishes monitoring, complaint centre to facilitate voters

People can register complaints via email, WhatsApp and special helpline number

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established the Election Monitoring and Complaint Centre (EMCC) to facilitate and address the voters' grievances pertaining to the upcoming general elections in 2024.

According to the ECP spokesperson, the EMCC will initially work from 8am to 6pm and will functional around the clock from mid-January until the elections.

People can register their complaints via email at compalaints@ecp.gov.pk, WhatsApp number 0327-5050610, or the special helpline number 111-327-000.

Moreover, the election watchdog has also established control rooms at its secretariat and provincial, divisional, and district-level offices for the registration and resolution of complaints.

On Monday, the election process entered its second phase with returning officers embarking upon the weeklong task of scrutinising the thousands of nomination papers.

The process of scrutiny of the nomination papers would continue until December 30 after which the candidates could challenge the decisions of the returning officers, if any, in appellate tribunals until January 3, 2024, which would be decided by January 10, according to the election schedule.

Overall 28,626 candidates for both national and provincial assemblies submitted their nomination papers – 7,913 for the 266 general seats of the National Assembly and 18,546 for the 593 general seats of the four provincial assemblies.
