ECP summons Establishment Division secy

Electoral body wrote two letters for changing Islamabad IG, deputy commissioner

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan has summoned the Establishment Division secretary, seeking an explanation for not changing the federal capital’s inspector general of police and the deputy commissioner.

The ECP directed the Establishment Division secretary to submit a report regarding the transfer of Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner immediately.

The electoral body sent a letter to the secretary.

The ECP had written two letters to the secretary for the transfer of Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner. Despite the orders of the ECP, the Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner had not been transferred.

Under Article 218(3) of the Constitution, “conducting transparent elections is the primary responsibility of the Election Commission”.

Under Article 220, all federal and provincial institutions are obliged to assist the Election Commission in conducting elections.
The ECP set Dec 26 as the date to hear the matter of Islamabad IG and deputy commissioner, directing the Establishment Division secretary to appear in person.
