Absconding killer of youth arrested after nine years

Police secure his seven-day physical remand and shift him to Hyderabad

The key accused involved in killing a 20-year-old youth, Aqib Shahani, has been arrested on his return from Dubai after nine years of the incident.

Shahani was brutally killed in front of his family near Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad.

Accused Barkat Lashari, who was declared absconder by the Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi, was deported from Dubai and he landed at the Jinnah International Terminal of the Karachi Airport on Friday. The GOR police, Hyderabad, in whose limits the offence had occurred, took custody of Lashari from the Federal Investigation Agency, and produced him before the ATC.

Police secured his seven-day physical remand and later shifted him to Hyderabad.

Earlier, the Sindh police approached Interpol which issued a red warrant that subsequently led to his arrest by Dubai police.

The ATC, Karachi, already convicted former District and Sessions Judge Matiari district, Sikandar Ali Lashari, main accused in the FIR, with death penalty on April 21, 2020. Shahani's father Khalid Hussain Shahani was posted as District and Sessions Judge Matiari district when his son was killed on February 19, 2014. The cause of his killing was said to be his intimacy with Lashari's daughter.

According to the FIR, the accused Ghulam Abbas Siyal killed the boy while Barkat and Malook Rahimo accompanied him during the killing.

The accused persons dragged the young boy out of his car and shot him dead in front of his mother and other family members who were also present in the car.
