PM orders competitive electricity rates

Says competitive prices for industries will boost trade activity

ISLAMABAD:

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday directed officials to introduce competitive electricity rates for industries in order to benefit the common man and promote trade activity in the country.

In a meeting with a delegation of industrialists and businessmen from Karachi, the premier said the government was taking every possible step to boost trade.

He also told the finance minister and energy minister to devise a strategy for determining gas prices in consultation with the industrialists.

The PM said the government was taking steps to expand the tax net and emphasised the role of the business community in this regard. He mentioned that work was underway on institutional reforms for the welfare of the masses and restoration of the economy.

The delegation comprised Businessmen Group Chairman Zubair Motiwala, Industrial Forum Chief Coordinator Muhammad Javed Bilwani, Lasbela Chamber Patron-in-chief Maqsood Ismail, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association’s former chairman Saleem Parekh, Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry Patron-in-chief Mian Muhammad Ahmed and North Karachi Association of Trade President Faisal Moiz.
