LAHORE:

Pakistan Railways has announced a 5% increase in freight train fares, effective from December 1 at 12:00 am, as per an official notification.

The hike will be uniformly applied across all goods traffic, with exceptions for specific cargo express routes, exempting them from the raised rates.

The notification clarified that the 5% increase would not affect the rates for cargo express routes 501Up/502 Dn and 503-Up/504-Dn. However, the total freight will continue to be rounded off as per the previous standard practice.

Preparations are underway to furnish a revised goods rates table, detailing calculated rates per ton for distances up to 5000 kilometres.

“The revised goods rates table showing calculated rate per ton up to 5000 kilometres is under preparation, copies of which will be supplied to the divisional superintendents for onwards distribution to all the stations open to goods traffic booking,” the notification read.

The notification emphasised the crucial need for prompt and accurate implementation of the rate adjustments, urging specific staff members at railway stations to ensure adherence to these directives.

Meanwhile, the railway administration also made alterations to the schedule of the (211UP) Narowal Passenger train operating between Lahore and Narowal, aiming to enhance public convenience.

The updated schedule dictates the train's departure from Lahore at 7:20 am, arriving at Narowal at 10:35 am. The change will take immediate effect, differing from the previous departure time of 09:00 am from Lahore.
