Saxophonist’s dream turns to ashes
Aadesh Kumar, a talented young saxophonist, is one of the eleven people who lost their lives in the RJ Shopping Mall fire incident.
Known for his captivating performances, Aadesh had recently showcased his musical prowess alongside an Italian cultural troupe at the National Academy of Performing Arts. His rise in the music industry commenced with a group rendition of the song “Mehbooba” during Nescafe Season 5 in 2017.
Each of the 11 individuals who perished in the devastating fire had unique stories, yet shared a common ambition beyond merely supporting their families - aspirations they were striving to fulfill while managing household expenses through night-shift jobs.
Aadesh Kumar, residing with his family in a flat in Naz Plaza on M.A Jinnah Road, was professionally associated with a software firm. However, his identity as a saxophonist had begun to take centre stage. The saxophone, a brass conical musical instrument demanding finger dexterity and breath control, spans various musical genres, from classical to jazz, and occasionally finds a place in rock and roll.
Aadesh’s passion for the saxophone blossomed under the guidance of Sir Bashir during his schooling at St. Patrick’s School.
After his father’s tragic demise due to Covid, Aadesh embarked on a journey to sustain his elderly mother and younger sister by performing at private concerts, blending his job with his musical pursuit. In 2017, his performance of “Leh Dil O Mehbooba” in Nescafe Season 5 marked a turning point, leading to several engagements in private concerts.
His last notable performance, alongside an Italian ensemble at NAPA, earned him a standing ovation, a testament to his musical brilliance. Remembering Aadesh, his longtime friend Sagarvel Ji, a NAPA graduate, described him as a person of profound thoughts and ambitions.
Aadesh had two primary dreams: supporting his family and bringing acclaim to his country through exceptional performances in his field of interest.
Tragically, these dreams were cut short by the unfortunate accident. Aadesh Kumar’s final rites were solemnised at Sonpuri Mandir Purana Golimar, bidding farewell to a young talent whose life was a testament to dedication, ambition, and musical excellence.
