Neena Gupta calls feminism 'faltu', says women need men
In a recent episode of a podcast hosted by Ranveer Allahabadia, veteran Indian actor Neena Gupta sparked a debate with her candid views on feminism, dismissing it as 'faltu' or useless. Gupta, known for her unfiltered opinions, challenged the widely embraced notion of gender equality, suggesting that the day men experience pregnancy is the day true equality between the sexes will be achieved.
In a world where discussions around feminism have been gaining momentum, Gupta's unconventional stance adds a new layer to the ongoing dialogue. "I want to say that it’s not necessary to believe in ‘faltu feminism’ (useless feminism) or the idea that 'women are equal to men',” she started off saying, as per Hindustan Times. “Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work.”
The Masaba, Masaba actor went on to state that even if a person is a housewife, they shouldn’t be looked down upon, nor should they feel ashamed of it. “Don’t look down on it; it’s an important role,” she assured. ”Boost your self-esteem and avoid thinking of yourself as small. That’s the main message I want to convey. Additionally, men and women are not equal. The day men start getting pregnant, that day we will be equal.”
Gupta furthered with an example from her own life to emphasise on the fact that women need men. “You need a man,” continued the Lust Stories 2 actor. “I will tell a small story. I had to catch a flight once at 6 am. I did not have a boyfriend at that time. I came out of the house at 4am and it was dark. A man started following me, and I was so scared. went back to my house and I missed my flight. The next day I booked the same flight. But I stayed at my male friend’s house and he dropped me off. I need a man,” asserted Gupta.
This year, the veteran actor was seen in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Vishal Bhardwaj’s web series Charlie Chopra and The Mystery of Solang Valley. She also starred in R Balki's short film Lust Stories 2. Neena has Anurag Basu’s Metro in Dino as one of her upcoming projects.
