Indian actor Jaaved Jaaferi shares 'Hamaslighting' post, continues to be vocal for Palestine
Renowned Indian actor and comedian Jaaved Jaaferi has emerged as a vocal advocate for the Palestinian cause, utilising his social media platforms to shed light on the issue. With a following of over 948,000 on his X account, the star posted about the concept of "Hamaslighting," a term he shared with an image (created by another account) aiming to satirically raise awareness for his audience.
The post defined "Hamaslighting" as a “form of gaslighting used to distract or confuse when a country, specifically Israel, carries out genocide against innocent Palestinians. This tactic is commonly used by exclaiming 'but Hamas!' in the middle of every conversation." The post also cited the statement, "Israel has a right to defend itself," as an example of "Hamaslighting" as well.
This instance is not the first time the Boogie Woogie star has voiced his support for Palestine. His X and Instagram accounts are inundated with posts that highlight various aspects of the ongoing aggression. In one post on X, Jaaved shared two screenshots of news articles. One focused on the Delhi police reportedly restricting mosque prayers for Palestine, while the other highlighted India extending felicitations to Palestine on its Independence Day, emphasising the "long-standing bond" between the two nations. Jaaved urged his followers to read both articles, suggesting a critical examination of the contrasting narratives. "Read 1 then 2. Repeat till it makes sense," he said.

One such link directed followers to an article by The Wire with a straightforward headline: "The world must wake up to Israel's lies."
In addition to sharing informative content, Jaaved has expressed admiration for the resilience and dignity of the Palestinian people, as demonstrated in a post featuring a video interview with a Palestinian man, who, despite significant personal losses, maintains hope for his people. "What a man. Emotionally destroyed by war with the loss of nearly 30 members of his family, yet dignity and fortitude keep his hope alive for his people," he penned on X.
