Parties urged to prioritise human trafficking issue

The political parties of the country have been urged to include the issues of human trafficking and bonded labour in their manifestos as a matter of high importance.
The proposal was put forward during a consultative session organised at a private hotel in the provincial capital on Thursday by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), an organisation working against bonder labour and human trafficking.
The consultative session was attended by former parliamentarians, social activists, police officers, labour representatives as well as representatives from the Social Security Department.

The Executive Director of the SSDO, Syed Kausar Abbas, told the session that issues like human trafficking and bonded labour required a concerted effort by all segments of society.
He said that the outcomes and recommendations from this consultative workshop would be compiled into a report to be shared with the political parties, government agencies and the people to persuade the political parties to give prominence to the issues of human trafficking and bonded labour in their manifestoes and to raise these issues at the political platforms during their election campaigns.
