LAHORE:

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir announced that special clinics for the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCD) had been established at all district and tehsil headquarters hospitals across the province. He added that diabetes patients may visit these clinics for necessary advice, diagnosis and treatment.

The minister revealed this while addressing an event marking World Diabetes Day on Tuesday. He observed that diabetes could be averted by adopting a healthy lifestyle and controlling obesity and body weight. This could be achieved by introducing light exercise as part of a daily routine.

Dr Nasir said the number of diabetes patients in Pakistan was increasing at an alarming rate due to sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary habits. Around 25% of adult citizens of the country were suffering from diabetes, he said.

The minister added that treatment was inevitable in case of disease, but prevention was better than a cure. Many people contract this disease simply because of their bad diet and there is a need to raise awareness among the citizens in this regard, he added.
