Policeman caught in botched robbery bid

A gold merchant, Fahad Muhammad Salim, foiled a robbery attempt at his home in Baldia Town on Friday.

One of the suspects turned out to be a policeman, said SHO Madina Colony Inspector Nasir Mehmood. Gul Sher was posted in the Special Protection Unit (UPS) of the police and was committing robberies too, Inspector Mehmood said

He said that four suspects had come to Salim’s house, two were in police uniform while two were in plain shalwar qameez. The culprits tried to enter his house under the pretext of forceful search. Salim, raised a hue and cry, on which the neighbours also reached the spot and surrounded the suspects. Meanwhile, a resident also informed Police Helpline15.

Seeing the crowd, the suspects made a run for it, however, the locals caught one of them. Meanwhile, a squad of Madina Colony police station also reached the spot.

People told the police the description of the three suspects who had escaped. Responding to the information, a mobile went in the direction the suspects had escaped and soon found three men, two in police uniform and one in shalwar kameez. The police squad signalled the trio to stop their motorcycle near Saeedabad Police Training Centre, however they opened fire. Subsequently, police returned fire, injuring one while the other two managed to escape.

The police initially shifted the two arrested robbers to the police station and after legal procedures, moved the injured one to Jinnah Hospital for medical assistance. The injured robber policeman was identified as Gul Sher who is posted in the Special Protection Unit (UPS).
