PAKPATTAN:

A man was shot dead and a couple were seriously injured when they resisted a kidnapping attempt in the Basti Lingayaka area on Wednesday. The body was shifted to the hospital for post-mortem and a case was registered.

According to details, a man named Asif Ali and his five accomplices allegedly opened fire when the victims tried to resist his attempt to kidnap his sister-in-law. Farhat Bibi's cousin, Muhammad Asif, was allegedly gunned down by the accused and her parents were seriously injured. Qabula police shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

When Muhammad Asif, Zaman and Mumtaz Bibi went ahead to free Farhat Bibi from the clutches of the accused, the accused opened fire. The father of victim did not allow the marriage of a relative named Feroza, so Asif allegedly attempted to kidnap his sister-in-law with the help of his accomplices. DSP Malik Tariq Javed Awan reached the spot along with personnel from Qabula police station. A case was registered against six people including Asif, Abid, Jabbar and Sattar among others.

Muhammad Zaman reportedly registered case No. 1516/23 under sections 452/337F1/148/149 PPC against Muhammad Asif and others for the abduction of Feroza Bibi on November 6th. Due to this, the accused Asif Ali and others reportedly shot and killed Muhammad Asif and seriously injured Muhammad Zaman and his wife Mumtaz Bibi.

Meanwhile, RPO Sahiwal Mehboob Rasheed visited Pakpattan and heard the grievances of local residents at the DPO office on Wednesday. He and DPO Pakpattan Tariq Wilayat held a meeting with SP Investigation Shahida Noreen, SDPOs Malik Tariq Javed Awan, Maher Waseem, Zahooruddin David, Muhammad Amin and SHOs.

RPO Sahiwal directed all police officers present in the meeting to enhance the ongoing crackdown against drug dealers on the orders of IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and bring those involved in drug peddling to justice.

He ordered all SHOs and investigating officers to use the crime prevention app and directed staff to resolve any open cases of murder and attempted murder on merit as soon as possible. He further ordered officers to ensure the arrest of the named accused in these cases.

The RPO said that crime incidents increase during winter due to fog and patrolling must be more regular to control crime. He further said that in line with the vision of IG Punjab, a zero tolerance policy against corruption has been adopted by the Punjab Police. Strict departmental action will be taken against police officers involved in corruption.

He further directed personnel to assess the security of banks on a daily basis and to make it fool-proof by holding meetings with the bank managers. RPO Sahiwal also directed staff to improve the traffic system to control traffic accidents due to foggy weather.

RPO Sahiwal Mehboob Rasheed additionally suspended SHO Kalyana police station on public complaints.
