Injured man 'confesses' to assaulting 35 kids

LAHORE:

A suspect wanted in a number of cases of child sexual abuse was injured during a raid by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Mangamandi.

During initial interrogation, the injured suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in at least 35 incidents of child sexual abuse, the police claimed.

According to officials, a pistol in the waistband of the suspect accidentally discharged. A team had conducted the raid to arrest the suspect, Aish Bahadur.

Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee but failed.

The officials said that as the police closed in, the suspect tried to pull out a pistol tucked in his waistband. "During the attempt, the weapon went off in his waistband, leaving him seriously injured," a CCD spokesperson said.

The injured man was shifted to a hospital for treatment in police custody.

The police said an investigation was under way to verify the suspect's statement and identify the victims.
