LAHORE:

Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Phillip Ramos, on Saturday expressed keen interest in establishing a strong economic collaboration between various sectors of Pakistan and the United States. Ramos, accompanied by the members of the American Pakistan Public Affairs Committee (APPAC), visited the LCCI.

In his speech, Ramos stated that the objective of his visit was to establish a sister-state relationship and build collaboration between the two respective regions in various sectors, including agriculture, education, health, trade, and culture. He emphasised the need to think beyond geopolitics and focus on economic development.

Ramos assured Pakistani businessmen of full support for doing business with the US and offered assistance for holding trade shows, exhibitions, and dialogues. He highlighted potential areas of cooperation in IT, pharmacy, agriculture, and other fields, with a focus on promoting small businesses.

LCCI President Kashif Anwar warmly welcomed the NY State Deputy Speaker and the delegation, emphasising the significance of their visit. He noted that LCCI is committed to fostering global ties and enhancing Pakistan’s trade and economic relations with the United States.

Anwar highlighted Punjab’s substantial contribution to Pakistan’s social and economic landscape, with the province accounting for over 50% of both GDP and population. He praised the agreement signed in January 2023, officially declaring Punjab and California as “sister provinces.”

The synergy between Punjab and New York holds great promise and is expected to bring transformative change to the socio-economic outlook of Punjab while strengthening Pakistan-American relations, he said.
