Embezzlement: Two Seikhupura govt officials arrested

Officials accused of misappropriating Rs9.01 million.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested Sheikhupura Tehsil Officer (Planning and Coordination) Ejaz Chughtai and building inspector Shehzad Ahmad on charges of corruption and misappropriation of Rs9.01 million.



In a handout issued on Saturday, the ACE said it had recovered Rs766,000 from the two officials. The statement said a five-member team had been formed to further investigate the matter. The team consists of ACE deputy directors Tariq Mehmood and Rana Khalid Mehmood, ACE Nankana Sahib chapter Assistant Director Aftab Ahmad and Circle Officer Mian Arshad and ACE Sheikhupura chapter Circle Officer Abid Joya.

Sheikhupura district coordination officer had referred the case to the ACE after the two officials were accused of embezzling Rs9.01 million from commercialisation fees.

Sheikhupura ACE Director Zulfiqar Ghumman said investigations were underway and more arrests were expected in the case.
