World leaders are complicit in these crimes: Angelina Jolie condemns refusal to Gaza ceasefire

The actor called out Israel for deliberate attack on Gaza’s largest refugee camp Jabalia

Israel expanded its air and ground invasion in Gaza, targeting the besieged Strip’s largest refugee camp Jabalia on October 31 with a deadly airstrike that has claimed over 50 lives and left nearly 150 wounded, according to Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital.

As the humanitarian crisis intensifies with unrelenting military attacks and blockade preventing essential aid supplies, Israel and her allies dismiss persistent calls for a ceasefire from across the world, prompting extreme concern.

Actor-philanthropist Angelina Jolie once again addressed the international community, underscoring her condemnation of the unfolding atrocities against Gazans. The actor shared a picture of Jabalia devastated in the aftermath of Israel’s airstrike, followed by a brief description of the refugee camp by UNRWA, UN agency of relief for Palestinian refugees.

“Jabalia refugee camp is the largest of the Gaza Strip’s eight refugee camps. After the 1948 war, refugees settled in the camp, most having fled from villages in southern Palestine. The camp covers an area of only 1.4 square kilometres. 116,011 Palestinian refugees are registered with UNRWA in Jabalia camp alone, 75 years since the 1948 conflict,” read the post.

Jolie criticised the Jabalia attacks in her post’s caption, stating, “This is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee. Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children. Whole families are being murdered.”

The Salt actor firmly called out world leaders on giving Israel the licence to continue ruthless assault on Palestinians. She said, “While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians - children, women, families - are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived food, medicine and humanitarian aid against international law.”

“By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes,” she reiterated her previous call for ceasefire. In an Instagram post recently, Jolie insisted that all lives “matter equally” and those in power should not hesitate to prevent further loss of life, declaring “humanity demands an immediate ceasefire.”
