Maimed Palestinians are at the cliff of Rafah. The Egyptian crossing point is now an inevitable route to life as the Zionist state is bent upon exterminating the two million stateless people of Gaza. The strip is on the verge of being invaded literally anytime by Israel, as the world looks the other way round for reasons of proximity. The unwarranted silence of the Arab and Muslim countries, as they refuse to go beyond condemnations, is soaring into revulsion, and the wedge between the state apparatus and men on the streets is widely evident now. Surprisingly enough, this time around social media has led from the front in cornering Israeli and western propaganda, and the non-Muslim intelligentsia has been at the forefront to oppose the Jewish state for its undebatable crimes against humanity.
The besieged Gazans, after having lost more than 7,000 lives and destruction to property, are now being pushed for spilling over into the adjacent Sinai desert. For many it is their second migration, as they lived fingers crossed for decades without a political solution to their occupied lands. Israel’s new strategy is to kick out Gazans from the conclave and occupy it, leaving behind what is the dream of a Palestinian state limited to West Bank enclaves, and that too with Jerusalem as the Jewish capital. This sounds like Armageddon in the making, and Palestinians look like an endangered species on earth. Who will come to their rescue? It is an academic question with no plausible answers.
Palestinians need an immediate three-pronged approach: ensure ceasefire from Israeli barbarism, secure Gazans’ life and property, and compel Israel to return to 1967 borders, if it wants recognition from and interdependence with the world community. Will someone lead from the front to make it happen? With Americans in an election year, and Democrats having proved their bias towards Israel, the Republicans can turn the tables by guaranteeing a lawful and logical solution. One can bet that the silent constituents will surely rally for such a cause inside and out of the US.
