Moment of silence for all men: Vir Das defends Deepika Padukone amid 'casual dating' comment outrage
The recent appearance of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh on the popular chat show Koffee with Karan has sparked a wave of controversy and criticism over Deepika's comments about her dating life before her marriage. While social media trolls have been quick to pass judgment, actor-comedian Vir Das has come to Deepika's defence, providing a humorous perspective on the matter.
Vir Das, known for his sharp wit, took to X to write, "Moment of silence for all the men who are upset that a Bollywood star way out of their league was casually dating for a while, and wasn't as committed as their imaginary girlfriend is to them."
Vir's witty take on the situation garnered support from many users who appreciated his humour and light-hearted approach. One user noted, "Nailed it," while another commented, "This explains it!" Vir Das' perspective highlights the absurdity of criticizing a celebrity's dating choices and emphasizes the importance of respecting everyone’s personal journeys.
In the episode, Deepika had said, “I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said 'I just don't want to be attached, don't want to be committed'. And I had fun! And then he comes along, so I didn't commit, until he proposed to me. There was no 'commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other.”
Later in the episode, there was a moment when Deepika even asked Ranveer who were her suitors. To this, a visibly annoyed Ranveer said, “Just a few minutes ago you said you were seeing other people and now you can't remember who?” Deepika replied, “I can’t remember the people,” to which Ranveer held, “I remember very clearly.”
