MULTAN:

The Additional Director General of the Environment Protection Department, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, imposed a fine of Rs3.5 million on owners of seven brick kilns operating without the zigzag technology and causing immense pollution.

Official sources said the additional DG of EPD conducted a raid in order to discourage owners of brick kilns as their kilns had been causing smog.

He also instructed officials to inspect the kilns along the Motorways. The owners of traditional kilns must convert their units into the zigzag technology.

About the zigzag technology, the official sources said that the technology helped in improving the control of airflow and heat distribution resulting in reduced energy consumption. Besides, it lowered the greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.
