Mohmand to register NCP vehicles

Unrest grows as crackdown looms; vehicle inspection to start from 23rd

MOHMAND:

District administration in Mohmand tribal district has decided to register all non-customs paid vehicles in the district.

Official sources told The Express Tribune that from October 23 to November 3. District administration and police will check the record of all NCP vehicles and such vehicles will also be inspected before registration.

After the completion of this process, all NCP vehicles would be issued stickers and registration numbers.

In this regard a special meeting was held which was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Mohmand Ihtishamul Haq and attended by the relevant officials including district police officer.

The meeting discussed the procedure to inspect and register all the NCP vehicles across the district. It was decided that the assistant commissioner would lead the committees in their respective jurisdiction to carry out the registration.

Vehicles examiners would inspect the vehicles after which it would be sent to the district police for further check-up. After the completion of the process numbers would be issued to all vehicles in the next phase.

It may be mentioned here that there were reports that the NCP vehicles are being used by terrorists which made the identification of such vehicles very difficult in the event of any attack or crime.

There are widespread reports that the federal government had decided to seize all NCP vehicles.

On October 5, Jamat-e-Islami (JI) vehemently opposed the crackdown on non-customs paid (NCP) vehicles in Malakand Division, citing severe repercussions for the local economy.

During a press conference held at Markaz-e-Islami, JI Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Naib Amir Inayatullah Khan expressed deep concern about the government’s intention to launch a crackdown on NCP vehicles.

He highlighted that this move has caused widespread unrest among the local population in Malakand Division, as numerous livelihoods are dependent on this trade.

Inayatullah warned that there are approximately five lakh NCP vehicles, and any attempt by the government to seize them could lead to a large-scale clash. He pointed out that the region has already been significantly affected by recent waves of terrorism and record-high inflation, making it increasingly difficult for locals to make ends meet.

Accompanying Inayatullah at the press conference were Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, former MPA Muhammad Ali, and JI Information Secretary Syed Jumat Ali Shah.
