President confers Nishan-e-Imtiaz upon new naval chief

ISLAMABAD:

President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday conferred the insignia of Nishan-e-Imtiaz (military) upon Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

The president decorated the naval chief with the award in recognition of his meritorious services at a special ceremony held in Islamabad at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, and services chiefs attended the ceremony.

Admiral Ashraf assumed the role of the 23rd naval chief of staff during the change of command ceremony in Islamabad on October 7.

He commenced his naval career in 1989, joining the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy. He is a graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, the US Naval War College, and the UK's Royal College of Defence Studies.

Throughout his career, he has held various key command and staff positions, including serving as commander of the Pakistan Fleet and Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy.

He has also played vital roles as deputy chief of naval staff for operations, training and personnel, and administration, in addition to being deputy president of the NDU.

He has received awards recognising his exceptional professional service and bravery, including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Tamgha-i-Basalat.
