Trending Topics feature may be on its way on Threads app

App developer leaks screenshots revealing a Trending Topics section making its way to the Threads app soon

Meta's Threads platform, standing as rival to X, may be getting a Trending Topics section. The news circulated when an app developer posted screenshots of the feature, shared originally by a Meta employee.

According to the app developer, William Max, “Just to be clear: I'm not a 'leaker' or anything like that,” in a post. “I simply follow many engineers and employees working at Meta, and one of them accidentally posted a screenshot that was meant to be private. Fortunately for us, I happened to see it at the right moment. I will not disclose who posted the screenshot for obvious reasons.”

@eddygraphic1, commented under the post, “Is this a concept or real screenshot?” To which the employee, @willianmax, replied, “It’s real. An employee just posted by accident. 🤫”

In the screenshot images posted, the feature appears to list trending topics according to the number of threads it received, similar to the feature on X, formerly Twitter. The topics, however, don't necessarily rank from most popular to least. The feature was showcased near the search tab.

While the trending topics section has been a vital feature to every social media platform, it has become quite problematic in the past. Facebook was compelled to kill the feature in 2018 after controversy over the feature repeatedly resurfacing conspiracy theories and misinformation. X has also had to deal with spam bots dominating the section with specific agendas.
