Incident occurred during the shift change and handing over of weapon

KARACHI:

A security guard, deputed at a hosiery factory in New Karachi Industrial Area, lost his life when his weapon went off accidentally during change of shift.

Law enforcement authorities have taken into custody the coworker, allegedly responsible for the incident, and seized the firearm.

Inspector Aurangzeb Khattak, in-charge of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station, said that Ali Gohar, a 50-year-old security guard, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his back during the incident.

The police transported the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem.

Inspector Khattak explained that the unfortunate incident occurred during the shift change. Ali Gohar reached for duty as the outgoing security guard, Shahzad, was handing over his loaded weapon to Gohar.
