Post offices around the country are being upgraded to include biometric verification and digital transfer of money in line with the requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The Paris-based watchdog had asked Pakistan to make all types of transactions computerized and verifiable as part of its requirements to remove the country from the grey list. As a result, a new digitised system is set to be introduced for money orders and expected to be implemented by month end, said sources within the postal department.
In the first phase, the sources said, the digital system would be available at general post offices (GPOs) across the country including the Rawalpindi GPO.
