SNGPL imposes Rs30m in fines for gas theft

Uncovers 55 illegal connections across various regions

In an ongoing crackdown against gas theft, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has detected 55 illegal gas connections and imposed fines totalling Rs30 million. The actions were taken across various regions of Pakistan.

According to a company spokesperson, in Lahore, the regional SNGPL team disconnected 15 connections for illegal gas usage and an additional two for using compressors. Additionally, 47 cases were processed for under billing, with an FIR lodged against them.

In Bahawalpur, the team disconnected seven connections related to compressor use and 16 for illegal gas usage. They also processed 17 under billing cases. The company imposed a fine of Rs40,000 on gas pilferers. In Multan, 11 connections were severed due to illegal gas usage, while nine were disconnected for using compressors. Six under billing cases were processed, and fines were imposed.

In Sheikhupura, one connection was disconnected for compressor use, and 63 under billing cases were processed. In Peshawar and Karak, 44 connections were disconnected for direct gas usage and illegal connections. Two FIRs were also lodged against gas thieves.

In Rawalpindi, six gas connections were severed due to direct and illegal gas usage, with one connection related to compressor use. In Mardan, the team processed 64 under billing cases and disconnected six connections for illegal gas usage.
