Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim directed the quarters concerned to impose Rs5,000 over wrong parking of the vehicles and Rs3,000 over car washing at homes.
Justice Karim was hearing different petitions about how smog could be controlled; society could be made pollution-free and protect the groundwater from being wasted.
During proceedings, Justice Karim also snubbed the LDA’s lawyer over initiating several projects giving remarks that it is unable to understand why you people are in hurry and why such projects were initiated when the smog season is just round the corner.
Justice Karim remarked that the time has come to install water treatment plants at homes and the PHA should regulate rules in this regard.
Expressing his gloom over the deficiency of the water, Justice Karim remarked that the water is an important issue which needs to deal with seriousness.
On smoky vehicles, Justice Karim also directed the concerned quarters to impose Rs3,000 on smoky vehicles.
Meanwhile, Justice Karim ordered to demolish those brick kilns who are creating pollution by their smoke.
Previous proceedings
Justice Karim had also imposed Rs2,000 fine on spot over one-way violation to stop violation of the traffic rules.
The court had also fixed new fine Rs2,00,000 increasing it from already fixed fine of Rs50,000 against those who found involved in stubble burning cases across the province.
The registration of FIRs is not the only solution of stopping stubble burning, Justice Karim then had observed.
The LHC had also directed the Punjab government to impose a smog emergency and call a meeting to take appropriate precautionary measures to control the smog before entering into the worst condition.
