Police seek custody of Umar, Imran’s sisters
The Punjab Police on Wednesday sought the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan's sisters and former federal minister Asad Umar in a case related to a mob attack on Lahore Corps Commander’s residence on May 9.
The police made this request to the judge of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing pleas seeking pre-arrest bail for Asad Umar and Imran’s elder sisters—Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan—in Punjab’s provincial capital.
They contended that the three had been declared guilty by a joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe into the incidents of rioting that took place in the wake of Imran’s arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 9 this year.
The counsel for the accused Advocate Burhan Moazzam Malik stated that the PTI chief’s sisters had not been nominated in the first information report (FIR) registered in the wake of the attack on the corps commander’s residence known as the Jinnah House.
He asked the prosecution to present testimonies in which Imran’s sisters were accused of being involved in the May 9 attacks. The investigation officer (IO) of the case told the court that he was ready to present the testimonies given under Section 161 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Aleema also took the rostrum, saying that they were seeking justice. The former premier's sister further stated that they had appeared in courts at every hearing. She said she was ready to be incarcerated if justice so demanded. However, at this point, his lawyer asked her not to speak any further.
The final arguments on the pre-arrest bail pleas will be held on October 16.
