PSX celebrates World Investor Week 2023
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has a rich history of delivering impressive returns on investment across various asset classes. However, a significant portion of the population remains unaware of these lucrative opportunities due to a lack of investor education and awareness.
The Managing Director and CEO of PSX, Farrukh H Khan emphasised the remarkable returns during the World Investor Week (WIW) 2023 through a gong ceremony at PSX. He stated, “The 20-year return of KSE 100 is well above 15% per annum in dollar terms.”
Khan further explained that very few asset classes globally offer such robust returns, particularly when it comes to equities. Therefore, he stressed the critical importance of learning and understanding stock market investing, especially for young individuals who can start early and maximise their investment returns over time.
It’s worth noting that the 15% return mentioned includes the relatively subdued performance of PSX in recent years, influenced by government measures aimed at cooling down an overheated economy.
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Supervision Division, represented by Commissioner Abdul Rehman Warraich, revealed SECP’s intention to establish a fund with regular contributions from various regulated and self-regulatory institutions. This fund will primarily focus on promoting investor education and awareness through print, electronic, and social media, along with educational and training programs that strengthen institutions like the Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan, said a statement.
As part of WIW 2023, PSX joined numerous other exchanges and organisations worldwide in raising awareness about investor education and protection. WIW, spearheaded by the World Federation of Exchanges, is observed from October 2 to 8, 2023. PSX has been actively organising WIW for the third consecutive year.
The week-long activities aim to underscore the significance of financial literacy and enhance awareness of investor education and protection.
