Body to preserve, reuse textbooks

A committee has been established with the aim of promoting the responsible use of government-provided textbooks, thereby preventing wastage and conserving public resources.

An official from the Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shared this development with APP on Sunday.

The newly formed District Level Constituent Committee (DLCC) will comprise four members, tasked with safeguarding textbooks from deterioration, facilitating their reuse, and ensuring they are returned to students for extended use.

This initiative is a response to the substantial annual expenditure on printing new textbooks, aimed at curbing the unnecessary drain on public funds and fostering a culture of sustainability.

The official explained that the designated committee will focus on the preservation, collection, and redistribution of textbooks within their respective districts.

The district-level committee will include a Chairman in the form of the District Education Officer (DEO), both male and female, along with members such as the Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO), also male and female, the Assistant District Education Officer (ASDEO), male and female representatives, and a member from the District Management Office (DMO).

Furthermore, the committee will actively engage in raising awareness among teachers and students about the proper handling and care of textbooks. Their responsibilities will encompass coordinating with school principals, headmasters, headmistresses, and head teachers for the collection, redistribution, and overall management of textbooks at the district level.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the committee will hold monthly meetings involving all relevant stakeholders and conduct random inspections of textbooks at various schools. Additionally, they will submit monthly reports to the provincial committee for evaluation.
