LAHORE:

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is likely to arrive in Lahore today (Thursday) to hold consultations with the provincial leadership of the party about the allocation of tickets for the upcoming general elections, which are scheduled for the last week of January.

According to sources, the PPP chairman, who served as the country’s foreign minister in the last coalition government, will stay in Punjab’s provincial capital for around a week.

In view of Bilawal’s arrival, all divisional heads of the PPP have called meetings of the party members in their respective divisions to discuss names of the prospective candidates who wish to contest the upcoming elections on the party's ticket.

These divisional heads will subsequently provide the party chief with lists of promising candidates. Sources have indicated that a few politicians from other parties may also announce their intention to join the PPP during meetings with Bilawal.

Punjab, the most densely populated province in the country, holds significant sway with its 175 seats in the National Assembly, which has a total of 336 seats. This underscores the pivotal role of securing political dominance in the province, as it ultimately determines which party will lead the government at the national level.
