QUETTA:

The Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki, has announced plans to transform Gwadar Port into a bustling transit hub in the near future.

CM Domki, who has been in Gwadar for the past two days to oversee the progress of development projects and assess the law and order situation, shared this vision with reporters during a conversation on Tuesday evening.

One significant step in this direction involves the activation of the fisheries department’s monitoring system, which will collaborate closely with the Coast Guard and Navy to enhance maritime security and safeguard the interests of the region.

Addressing the issue of illegal trawling in the province’s coastal waters, CM Domki emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing this practice.

He mentioned that assistance would also be sought from the federal government to address the concerns of local fishermen, demonstrating a holistic approach to the problem.

Furthermore, CM Domki underscored the dedicated efforts being made to expedite the completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. Timely completion of these initiatives is a priority as it will stimulate economic activities in the region, providing substantial benefits to the local population.

Regarding the upcoming general elections, Domki clarified that preparations for conducting the elections will commence once the Election Commission of Pakistan announces the final date. This ensures a systematic and organized approach to the electoral process.

Recognizing the drinking water challenges faced in Gwadar, the chief minister assured the public that every possible effort is being made to resolve this issue. Responsible utilization of available water resources is a priority, and the government is actively seeking solutions to alleviate the situation.

In a note of concern, CM Domki mentioned that the supply of electricity from Iran to certain parts of Balochistan has been disrupted for two months. This unexpected interruption has posed challenges in areas that previously enjoyed uninterrupted electricity supply from Iran.
