A man is known by the company he keeps

ISLAMABAD:
Working in a newsroom for about a decade, I find Ayesha Siddiqa’s article “A man is known by the company he keeps!” (June 27) very refreshing. Understanding that military culture must be subordinated by a political culture can make dreams for world peace come true. The writer of this piece emphasises this. Jinnah might have put his generals in leading positions for want of time. If he hadn’t, we would not be witnessing the current tussle between our institutions. The history of the battle between institutions is linked to the present.

Moreover, the presentation of shallow facts in the electronic and print media needs theoretical orientation for better understanding. The media’s reliance upon statements of particular military generals and not the entire military mindset is worth a promising case study.
