One of the biggest Bollywood releases of this year, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, is now available for streaming on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. The romantic drama starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the lead couple has gained a large fan-base since its release back in July.
Director Karan Johar took to his Instagram profile to share the announcement by uploading a poster of the film and captioning the post: “Rocky and Rani are here to see you with their prem kahaani! #RRKPKPrime, watch now only on @primevideoin”. The celebrated filmmaker made the announcement on September 22, 2023, much to the excitement of fans who did not get the chance to watch it when it hit the theatres.
In addition to casting the beloved on-screen ‘it’ couple of Alia and Ranveer in lead roles, Karan Johar also brought on board veteran actors like Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachan for this project. Much of the excitement around the film was due to these three Bollywood legends being seen on screen together, especially since the three have appeared lesser and lesser in films of late.
The plot of the film revolves around the protagonists Rocky Randhawa and Rani Chatterjee. While Rocky comes from a Punjabi family steeped in regressive patriarchal values, Alia is a feminist journalist who hails from an intellectual Begali family. The duo ends up connecting and collectively embark on a quest to reunite their grandparents who were once lovers but were forced to part ways due to life’s circumstances.
Despite their vastly different cultural backgrounds and upbringing, the young pair end up falling in love. However, just like their grandparents, the couple has to combat significant challenges standing in the way of their love. Their love story becomes a modern-day repetition of what Rani’s grandmother and Rocky’s grandfather had to go through in their journey of love. But all is well that ends well and the film concludes with a happy ending for the young couple.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Premi Kahaani was one of the most notable blockbuster hits in Bollywood cinema this year, amassing a total of INR 300 crore worldwide.
As the film has begun streaming on Amazon Prime Video India, many fans and Bollywood lovers are excited to watch the film’s catchy song Kudmayi and its beautifully shot music video on the full screen, which was previously only seen in a small side-box with the end credits on roll.
