Sindh Premier League to be played in December
The first Sindh Premier League (SPL) will be played in Karachi from December 14 to 25. The league consisting of six franchise teams will provide opportunities for talented cricketers to show their abilities with the promotion of sports in the province. Sports facilities will be provided at the grass-roots level.
These views were expressed by the speakers during a function which was attended by former Test captain Javed Miandad, Misbahul Haq, Shahid Khan Afridi, Shoaib Malik, former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, fast bowler Shahnawaz Dhani, Interim Sports Minister Dr Junaid Ali Shah, former provincial minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and SPL Chairman Arif Malik besides others. Murtaza Wahab said that promoting positive activities like sports is necessary to prevent the new generation from engaging in negative activities. The league is a good opportunity for the youth of Sindh to show their talent. Holding of the mega-event in Karachi will give a positive impression of the city, the mayor said.
Misbah-ul-Haq said that the league is expected to deliver good players. There is a gap between international cricket and domestic cricket and this league competitions will bridge the gap. Shahid Khan Afridi said Sindh has set a good tradition by starting the league.
Shoaib Malik said such events provide opportunities to players. Sports fields should be open to all without discrimination. Abdul Razzaq said that he will play his role in improving the skills of the players. League chairman Arif Malik said that foreign players will also play key roles in the league.
