AI’s role for Sindhi language’s promotion, preservation highlighted

Conference calls for compiling database of Sindhi language words on internet platforms

Information technology experts and leaders from various institutions gathered at a conference with a common goal: the development of Sindhi language, its integration into Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the recognition it deserves.

The conference, organised by the Sindhi Language Authority, focused on the intersection of AI, technology, and the future of Sindhi language. Experts emphasised the importance of compiling an extensive database of Sindhi language words on internet platforms. They called upon all institutions to collaborate as a task force to create opportunities for students and scholars working in the IT sector.

The inaugural session of the conference was presided over by Dr Taaha Hussain, Vice Chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro. Dr Ishaq Samejo, Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, outlined the purpose of the conference.

He highlighted that while Sindhi language may not face an immediate threat, it is crucial to determine its place in the context of modern technology and preservation efforts. Dr Samejo mentioned a collaborative effort with the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute and encouraged various IT departments to propose projects related to Sindhi language. The Sindhi Language Authority pledged full support to collectively address language challenges.

The chief guest, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Taha Hussain, in his address, acknowledged the significance of AI, describing it as a groundbreaking technology. He commended the Sindhi Language Authority for organising a conference on this unique topic.

Dr Hussain emphasised the importance of empowering youth, noting that they are the future and possess abundant potential. He urged universities to provide platforms for youth to showcase their skills, recognizing them as major contributors to the field of technology.

Khalid Hyder Shah, Commissioner of Hyderabad Division, stressed the responsibility of educational institutions to focus on AI and modern technology. He highlighted that today's young generation is well-versed in technology but needs more opportunities and an encouraging environment to demonstrate their abilities. Universities, according to Shah, play a pivotal role in nurturing technological talents.
