Football: ‘Real, Barca may abandon La Liga’
Valdano said the gap between the wealthy pair and the rest of the teams in La Liga was likely to get bigger.
MADRID:
Former Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano believes that the overwhelming dominance of his club and Barcelona in their domestic league will inevitably lead them to abandon Spain for European competition. Valdano, who was ousted in May after losing a power battle with coach Jose Mourinho, said the gap between the wealthy pair and the rest of the teams in La Liga was likely to get bigger. “Madrid and Barcelona will have to look to teams that are going at the same speed, and that will lead to a European league,” said Valdano.
