One of the local entertainment industry’s rising actors, Arez Ahmed has appeared in well over a few serials such as Meher Posh, Kahin Deep Jaley, Mera Rab Waris, and Uraan, amongst others. However, aside from his resume of acting roles, the actor also garnered some attention when he wed fellow actor Hiba Bukhari, who recently commented in support of her husband’s controversial new acting role.
Recently, the Meher Posh actor has been caught in the spotlight for portraying a role completely different to what he is previously known to have essayed. Sharing a close up look for his role as someone from the Khwajasira community to his Instagram, followed by a trailer, Ahmed revealed that his new project, Mein Kahani Hoon, will be a departure from his traditional roles.
While the actor has been getting mixed reactions under his post, Bukhari was quick to give her two cents on her husband’s portrayal of the character, lauding him and the team behind the serial for their “brave” undertaking. The Thori Si Wafa actor expressed her excitement in the following words: “Just love it! Very brave of you to perform this. Can’t wait to see it soon! Best wishes to the team!”
The story of Mein Kahani Hoon seems that it will delve into the realities of belonging to the Khwajasira community in current day Pakistan and the trails of living in an unaccepting society. While sharing the trailer to his social media, Ahmed wrote, “Acting awakens a certain sense of empathy inside of you. It is a celebration of a thousand possibilities.”
The Uraan actor later also went on to sharing the official poster for the upcoming serial, captioning it; “Saw people getting uncomfortable around us before they realised we are on a shoot and merely actors playing hermaphrodite (hijras). Two days of shoot made me realise what agony they go through all their lives. All these newly coined terms have made us forget about these people and their rights…Hijras are not transgender, they don’t have a choice.”
