PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Abdul Wasi has announced holding a sit-in in front of the Governor House against inflated electricity bills from Sept 18.

“I have a problem with the [high] electricity bills,” the JI general secretary said while addressing the media on Monday.

JI Peshawar head Bahrullah Khan, General Secretary Hidayatullah, Information Secretary Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Khalid Gul Mohmand and others were also present.

JI chief Sirajul Haq announced sit-ins in front of the governor houses of the four provinces of the country on the issue.

K-P produced more and cheaper electricity than it needed, Wasi said, adding that it had minerals and 42% gas, but despite this, the economic and commercial situation of the province was very bad.

Therefore, he said, the JI announced a sit-in in front of the Governor House in Peshawar on Sept 18.

The JI workers and people from all over the province will participate in the sit-in.

“People have no other option except the Jamaat-e-Islami,” Wasi said. “Apart from inflation, the biggest problem in the province is law and order.

“We are concerned about the situation in Chitral and the borders.”

Wasi said that his party was a ray of hope in all this situation.

He accused the Pakistan Democratic Movement and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of looting the province and the country with both hands, urging the people not to vote for the already tried ones again and support the JI, because “Jamaat-e-Islami is the only party that will protect them against terrorism, inflation, and heavy electricity bills”.

“Our movement will continue till the electricity tariff as well as prices of petroleum products come down and people get relief.”
