LAHORE:

In a bid to improve metropolis’s air quality, Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa has mandated that all passenger vehicles entering Lahore must possess a valid fitness certificate.

He issued the directives during a meeting he chaired on Saturday.

He also stressed the importance of stringent action against unauthorised fuel sales, stating that zero tolerance would be exercised in this regard.

To address environmental concerns in the leather industry, a commission has been established to oversee the installation of treatment plants in Kasur's tanneries.

“Non-compliant factories risk closure, underscoring the commitment to eco-friendly industrial practices,” he remarked.

Furthermore, commissioner called upon all deputy commissioners (DCs) to bolster the operations of Vehicle Fitness Agency Centres.

This initiative aims to encourage environmentally responsible activities and discourage practices detrimental to the environment.

The commissioner also ordered that any road excavation carried out without the necessary No Objection Certificate (NoC) must result in the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR) with the relevant executing agency.

This measure aims to regulate construction activities, minimise disruptions and enhance the city's environmental sustainability and overall efficiency.
