JI councilor shot dead by kunda mafia
A councilor belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was fatally shot by members of the kunda mafia in Surjani Town on Friday.
Another two men were also wounded in the gunfire and physical assault that happened in Sector 4C of Surjani Town.
Volunteers from Chippa rushed the fatally shot victim to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was identified as 60-year-old Habib, while one of the injured was named as 42-year-old Adnan Izhar, who is currently receiving medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deadly incident stemmed from a dispute regarding payments for unauthorised electricity connections (kunda) in residential areas, as per SHO Surjani Town police station Amin Solangi.
Witnesses claimed the shooting was carried out by members of the kunda mafia. Local residents had sought assistance from JI-affiliated local government officials to facilitate the installation of electricity meters in their homes.
The locality remains tense following the fatal shooting.
