ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has converted the plea, seeking dismissal of the Civil Judge Asim Hafeez in the case pertaining to the alleged torture of a teenage housemaid employed at his residence, into a writ petition by appointing lawyers Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua and Meryam Salman as amicus to assist the court in the matter.

The court while issuing notices to the federation through the Ministry of Human Rights as well as the Ministry of Interior, sought a report on the measures taken or could be taken on the issue.

Meanwhile, the written order of the previous hearing was issued by the court of IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. Through its order, the court also put the Islamabad Chief Commissioner to notice, observing that the allegations made in the petition required serious actions.

“The allegations levelled in the writ petition call for serious thought and action on the part of government functionaries to alleviate child labour generally and curb the practice of hiring as domestic aide minors children especially,” the court order said.

The case will be heard in the third week of September.
