KARACHI:

The price of sugar in the city has started to ease in the wholesale grain marlet. The cost of 50 kilogramme sugar bag dropped from Rs8,750 to Rs8,600 on Wednesday in the wholesale market, Jodia Bazar. As a result, the price of sugar per kg decreased by Rs3 and selling at a cost of Rs172. While the ex-mill price of sugar including transport cost is Rs170 per kg. However, sugar is being sold at the retail level for Rs180 to Rs190 per kg which is also expected to see a drop in price.

Shafqat Mehmood, a wholesaler of sugar in Jodia Bazar has said that inflation control measures of the army chief have led to a downward trend in sugar prices.

According to Mehmood, sales have clearly decreased due to the daily increases in sugar prices over the previous three weeks.

Thus, the decline in sugar prices can also be attributed to these factors.

It is important to point out that sugar price went up from Rs90 to Rs100 per kg in recent past.
