Provincial Minister for Agriculture SM Tanveer said the government was mapping out a comprehensive strategy to uplift citrus production in view of international standards and to address seed, nursery and disease and pest management issues in order to generate forex by meeting local demands.
He was chairing a meeting on citrus at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Tuesday.
He stated that the sustainable agricultural development was the government’s top priority and that the citrus action plan committee, led by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, was constituted to address citrus challenges.
Provincial Minister Tanveer said that agricultural experts, academics and policy makers have to make joint efforts to achieve food security. He added that our agricultural institutions are making great efforts to meet the needs of the ever-growing population. Being an agricultural country, prosperity and poverty alleviation was directly linked with the sector, he said.
