HAZRO:

The situation at the only college for boys in the sub-district of Hazro in Attock district has not changed with two professors catering to a student body in excess of one thousand.

The government college, named after prominent local leader Shuja Khanzada who was martyred in a terrorist attack, had at one time 1,800 students but the strength has continued to decline due to the lack of teachers.

Teachers who were appointed to the Government Shuja Khanzada Shaheed Associate College Hazro a few months ago have since been transferred to ‘colleges of their own preference’ with no replacement.

There are 22 posts for teachers but only two of those slots have been filled.

This has left parents concerned about the future of their children as this is the only college in the entire sub-district.

Locals said they were unable to send their children to colleges in neighbouring sub-district due to the high cost of living and fuel.

Academics, educators and activists have urged the provincial ombudsperson to take notice of this issue.
