‘I got panicked’, says arrested SUV driver who ran over five people
The driver of a black double cabin SUV involved in a hit-and-run incident that left five people injured, including a man, his two minor daughters, and a niece in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal, has stated that he fled the scene out of fear following the accident.
Muawiaya, in a video statement, said that the incident occurred when the accelerator of his vehicle became stuck near a U-turn close to Iqra University.
This malfunction, he claimed, caused the vehicle to veer out of control, leading to the collision with several people, including children and a rickshaw.
The arrested driver narrated that the angry bystanders at the scene began pelting stones at him in the aftermath of the accident, intensifying his panic and prompting him to make a hasty exit.

According to police, the arrested driver had two friends accompanying him at the time of the incident, and he possessed a valid computerised driving licence.
The police have scheduled the driver's court appearance for Saturday, during which the court will deliberate on any settlements that may be reached between the accused driver and the injured individuals.
The charges filed against the driver include two sections, one for speeding and another for causing injury to citizens while driving, each carrying a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison.
