KARACHI:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh was arrested by police soon after being released by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

ATC Karachi at its Clifton courtroom had ordered release of Sheikh in the May 9 riots case.

However, as Sheikh stepped outside the court, police arrested him in another case. According to police sources, a case was registered against Sheikh on Wednesday for obstructing official work.

Earlier during hearing at ATC, the judge dismissed the plea of police for the physical remand of Sheikh in the May 9 cases and ordered his release. The PTI’s legal counsel told the court that Sheikh was on transit bail granted by the Peshawar High Court from August 21 to September 4. Consequently, the police were prohibited from arresting him during this transit bail period.

The police’s action in arresting him was in direct violation of the court’s orders.

After due deliberation, the court ordered his release. But he was arrested outside the court in another.
