‘Barbie’ beats final 'Harry Potter' film to become highest-grossing Warner Bros movie

The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon

The Warner Bros Studios are familiar with the challenge of producing popular films like Superman, Batman, The Matrix, and Justice League, to name a few. However, even for a large production house such as this, their newest and most popular edition to the family revolving around an all too familiar doll has admittedly taken the cake when it comes to popularity.

The Barbie universe has proved to be one that just keeps on giving. The film makes history as it becomes Warner Bros' highest-grossing film, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

On Monday, Greta Gerwig’s masterpiece holds the fort as it graciously nears $1.34 billion at the worldwide box office - a record earning previously held by the final Harry Potter film. However, this is not the only record the Margot Robbie starrer holds. The blockbuster surpassed another vital milestone in this same month as it flew past Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight to claim the title of the biggest Warner Bros movie in North America. Another recent feat also includes surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to now become the top-grossing title of 2023 in North America.

Yet, this is not it for Barbie. The film is expected even to surpass The Super Mario Bros. to become the global earner of the year. Considering the film aims for the stars, it will be no surprise if it even creeps up to leaving behind Frozen II at $1.43 billion to claim the throne as the top-grossing film of all time – live-action or animated – from a female director.

The now rather renowned director has also achieved life-changing milestones in her career as she holds the title for the highest-grossing female director at the domestic box office in North America while being classified as the highest-grossing female director of a live-action at the worldwide box office.

Barbie marked its name in the cinematic universe when it released just back in July, immediately declaring itself as a powerhouse production – some may argue even before its premiere. The Robbie and Gosling sensation film was all the buzz as many flocked to the cinemas to relive the magic of quite possibly the world’s most beloved doll.
