Man dies, two injured in Nazimabad signboard collapse incident

Rescue officials say victims were commuting from underpass on two motorcycles when the signboard fell on them

KARACHI:

A motorcyclist died while two others sustained injuries after a signboard collapsed on them at Nazimabad Underpass on Monday.

Edhi rescue workers shifted the victims, Kashif, Amir and Shahid to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in critical condition but Amir succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.

According to rescue officials, the victims were commuting from the Underpass on two motorcycles when the signboard fell on them.

Reportedly, the deceased, Amir, and injured Kashif were the residents of Shah Faisal Colony, while the other injured, Shahid, was from Azizabad. The rescue workers said that Kashif’s condition is still reported to be in a critical condition.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab taking notice of the signboard falling on people in Nazimabad Underpass has sought report from the relevant authorities.

KMC spokesperson claimed that the city wardens have apprehended five drug addicts involved in damaging signboards to steal iron. One of drug addicts was said to be involved in damaging the signboard which collapsed in the underpass leading to death of a biker and injuries to tiher two. Nazimabad SDPO DSP Salman Waheed said police will investigate the matter and take action as per law.

Separately, a motorcyclist, 26-year-old Qamar Zaman, lost his life after his bike collided with a a water tanker in Korangi on Monday. SHO Jamal Laghari said that the driver of the tanker managed to escape from the scene after the accident but the police have seized his tanker and registered an FIR against him.
