PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced its notable success in the recent local government by-elections. The party secured a total of eight seats, clinching the second position among political parties in the province.

JI’s K-P Secretary-General Abdul Wasey made these claims in a press release issued from its provincial headquarters Al-Markazi Islami Peshawar on Monday.

He stated that in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda District, elections were conducted on a total of five seats. He added that the party’s female candidate Zaujah Naweed Muhmand emerged victorious uncontested on one seat.

Out of the remaining four seats, he claimed that the JI was successful in three. For the last remaining seat of Village Council Haji Zai, Abul Wasay added that Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate secured victory.

Speaking of the four vacant seats in Dir Bala, he said only one was left vacant by Jamaat-e-Islami, while the party managed to secure two seats.

According to the results of the local government elections held throughout the province, he said a significant number of independent candidates achieved success.

After independent candidates, Abdul Wasay claimed JI secured the second position among political parties.
