Khosa hints launching lawyer’s movement against humiliation

Lawyer says movement will be launched from Peshawar

LAHORE:

Senior lawyer and PPP’s former Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khosa hinted towards launching a lawyers' movement in response to the maltreatment and humiliation faced by the legal fraternity.

“No one is ready to stay in Pakistan owing to the economy’s destruction," said Khosa, adding that over 1.6 million people have left the country for foreign destinations during the last 16 months.

Speaking to the media at his office situated near the Lahore High Court (LHC), he said the way lawyers are being treated could not be tolerated at any cost.

"Now the time has come to take things to the defining moment and the lawyers, in this regard, will kick off their movement from Peshawar.

Shedding light on the PPP’s central executive committee’s meeting, he said that timely general elections were his demand and the party is also demanding the same now.

He added that those who used to lambast him and barrister Aitzaz Ahsan had to hear a “shut up call” from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Responding to a query, he said he started reciting the first kalma when they believed no one was coming to rescue them after they were trapped in an elevator on the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Expressing his displeasure over recent incidents, the senior lawyer said he has been targetted along with his family, but such moves would not affect his morale. Khosa further said that Pakistan is his first priority and then the political parties of the country.

Responding to another query, he said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has become a party in the Toshakhana case, "but everyone knows the Toshakhana case amounts to nothing".
